The farm

Agua Fría has almost two centuries of history in Miranda state, among mountains and mist. It was a production centre during Venezuela's 19th-century coffee boom and exported coffee to Europe. The Carrillo family recovered it in 1926, and José Tomás Carrillo has turned it into one of the first Venezuelan projects working with controlled fermentation.

Story

Farm history
Agua Fría is one of the historic farms of Venezuelan coffee. Set in the mountains and mist of Miranda state, its history goes back almost two centuries. During the Venezuelan coffee boom of the 19th century it was an important production centre, exporting coffee to Europe.

The Carrillo family recovered the farm in 1926, but it was when José Tomás Carrillo, the current producer, took over that Agua Fría was rebuilt as a quality-focused project.

Today the farm combines traditional agricultural practices with post-harvest innovation. It was one of the first Venezuelan projects to apply controlled fermentation, and it works in direct contact with roasters.
